Pigeon River Rafting w/a group

Postby sbroam » Sun Jul 31, 2011 8:39 pm

If you were taking a group rafting on the Pigeon, what outfitter would you go with?

Any ideas on other activities nearby? I'm thinking of hiking rather than the touristy things (i.e. not gem mining...) Was thinking Max Patch.

And camping... Any thoughts on a nice not too commercial, not too primitive campground? i.e. has showers, but not an RV park?

Private Raft it's the pigeon.

15-20 people, kids from 9-15 or so, and I haven't been to the dirty bird in years - I'm going with an outfitter for this one.

Noc. Good call on max patch. Check out the campground at big creek, right up the road from the put-in.

x2 on NOC & the patch. ask for Kayla and Alex. you can call them at the great outpost and ask about things in the area, they know what doesn't suck.
There's the smart way, and then there's my way.

865-277-8209 is the number for the 'great outpost' in gatlinburg. 888.905.7238 is the rafting reservation number. let me know if you need any help.

Have an afternoon trip with the NOC. Big Creek was booked - the NOC recommende Cosby in the park - reserved that. We look good to go - thanks!

Great trip with the NOC - lasted longer than anticipated, the group all said they had an awesome time. Cosby was a nice campground but to get 20 people in their group sites would require them to be quite friendly - it was tight w/17... We made the mistake of following the GPS to Max Patch from Cosby and ended up on a jeep road that scared off a couple of the mini-vans - we found a nice hill on the retreat. 2 families re-routed and found the "real" Max Patch. All-in-all, a great trip. And I'm way overdue for a return trip to the Pigeon in a "real boat". Too bad Snap Dragon won't be like I remember it...
