Saluda River Map

Postby sbroam » Fri Aug 10, 2012 11:02 am

People occasionally ask me about where to go on the river and I was sure there was an online map with access points and landmarks, but heck if I could find one. So, I made one :

No, its not complete and no, it probably won't ever have everything you think should be on there. My primary objective was to answer the most recent question - "where should we go tubing now that we can't go to the zoo?"

Nice work Scott! That's got about everything you need to know. Hey if you get bored, you may want to add the "proposed site of new pedestrian bridge" on there. Also may want to note the awesome play wave at Stacy's at 15k+

Stickied.

Awsm Scott. Would have saved me an epic story for Hartley and 2 friends of mine if this existed 6 years ago. How about a mark on alpine, maybe "this is where poop comes from?"
There's the smart way, and then there's my way.

Cool map, thanks for making it.
I've got one from DNR somewhere... was published years ago when they were first talking about doing the greenway... it's a pretty good pdf. I'll see if I can locate that.

Very cool map. Thx for posting it. 2 years old and still getting use! Anything new to add to it? The icon at Fisherman's Rock says it's a good play spot at higher flows, but at draw down I thought it was a Bad Place. Does "high flow" meaning something less than 20k? Or are my huevos just not up to scratch? Also, it'd seem like a good idea to add Dumbass Hole in Millrace.

I'd say fisherman's is good between 12 to 15k? My mental notes say 13k is a pretty good level.

That said, if you flip it's a good idea to roll fast if possible. There's a shallow rock in the outflow that has claimed a many a knuckle!

That was a whole lot of icon going on right there......ALWAYS remember ....go right or go left....it's your decision to play with river icons :hmm:

Far as fishermans being a bad spot.... Over the last few years I have went through there over 75 times running it every way possible. Then at 11K on November 30th, I started left and tried to catch the eddy in the middle of all it and ended up with a painfull pin..... That ended up being my only swim of the year. At bigger water, I would assume the pin spot that grabbed me would be under water if you were in your boat.

I'm talking about good as a play spot.
